Met Gala 2021: ”TAX THE RICH” Dress Worn by AOC Sparks Controversy

By Lyle Mark Bulado

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stole the show at the Met Gala amongst A-list actors, musicians, models and influencers, by wearing a designer gown emblazoned with the words "Tax the Rich." by Designer Aurora James. Her fashion statement caused such a spark, a conservative watchdog group filed an ethics complaint against her.

After some called her a hypocrite for condemning wealth inequality at the lavish, star-studded red-carpet event, the New York Congresswoman defended her decision Monday to attend the Met Gala wearing a floor-length white gown with "Tax the Rich" written on the back in bold, red letters.

The Medium is the Message

She said "The Medium is the Message" as she wrote on her caption in an Instagram post with a picture of herself and designer Aurora James styling her with finishing touches for the event.

AOC served as the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th Congressional District since 2019.
